Evin Lewis Makes Comeback In West Indies Team For T20 World Cup

West Indies all-rounder Evin Lewis will make his comeback on the International Cricket and stage for the T20 World Cup after spending a year away from cricket. The 26-year-old, who last played for West Indies in January 2018 against Ireland, was called up by head coach Jason Holder to the team for the tournament starting on March 10 in New Zealand.

West Indies will play their first Group A match against Sri Lanka at Eden Park, Auckland; followed by matches against Afghanistan and Nepal at Seddon Park, Hamilton. The Men in Green exited the qualifying stages of the mega event without winning a match after finishing last among their four opponents with two points from a possible three.

Their solitary victory came against Afghanistan. Lewis has had a stellar domestic career since making his debut in 2014 and has also represented his country twice, including in an ODI back in 2015.

He had earlier revealed that he had been struggling with injuries during this time and admitted that he had not been ready to take up another professional sport once he returned. But with West Indies having missed out on several top players before he joined them, Lewis felt obliged to return as well.

Evin Lewis’ Domestic Career

Lewis made his first-class debut in 2014 and his T20 debut in April 2015. He made his senior debut in the 2015 World Cup against India, though he did not bat or bowl in that game. He played his first One Day International (ODI) against India in October 2015.

After failing to break into the West Indies’ T20 team, Lewis switched to the domestic circuit and made a scintillating start to his career. Lewis’ first class career began with two matches in the 2015-16 season, though the West Indies Professional Cricket League (WIPCL) did not start until the next season.

Lewis’ domestic career continued with a number of successes, including being named the WIPCL Most Valuable Player in the 2016-17 season. In the same season, he also became the first WIPCL player to score a double century. His career has since continued to progress and he was named in the West Indies’ squad for the 2016 Champions League T20. Lewis has also been a part of several domestic teams’ squads.

West Indies Team for T20 World Cup

Lewis has finally been called up to West Indies’ T20 World Cup squad following some excellent performances in the domestic circuit. After a forgettable World Cup, West Indies’ T20 team has been in a poor state and will hope Lewis can help them turn things around. West Indies have recently won a few matches against India but other results have been disappointing.

The team has some good players, including Andre Fletcher and Jomel Warrican, but has also had its fair share of problems. Holder has been trying to reform the team and get rid of some of the bigger egos in the side. Lewis has been included in the squad as Holder looks to get some leadership in the side. West Indies’ first match in the tournament is against Sri Lanka at Eden Park, Auckland on March 10.

Is Lewis the best all-rounder from West Indies?

Lewis has had a good domestic career, but his international career has not been any better. He has only played two ODIs for West Indies, both in 2015. He has represented West Indies in the T20 World Cup twice, but he has only played 11 T20 Internationals for the team. Lewis’ best score in T20 cricket is 54 against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup in 2012.

West Indies have had a good record in T20 cricket in recent years, but they have not had many good all-rounders like they had in the past. The best all-rounders have been Darren Sammy, Kieron Pollard, Chris Gayle, and Andre Russell. Lewis has not been able to up his game enough to be included in the squad.

Highlights of Evin Lewis’ T20 career so far

In his career, Lewis has played for six teams and four different cities. He has also played in three different countries. Lewis began his career with a bang, scoring almost 100 runs in his first match and taking a few wickets as well. His best performance in an innings is 45, a score he achieved in a T20 match against Zimbabwe in 2016. His best bowling performance in a T20 match was also in Zimbabwe in 2016,

where he took 4/37. In his career, Lewis has taken 68 wickets in T20 cricket and scored over 2000 runs. Lewis has had some good performances in the T20 format and often times West Indies can find themselves in difficult situations because of Lewis’ poor batting performance. Lewis’ best T20 career performance was in 2016 when he scored 154 runs off just 73 balls and took 4 wickets for 37 runs.

Conclusion

Lewis is one of the best West Indies T20 all-rounders of all time. His consistency in the format has been striking, and he has often been the difference in matches for the Men in Green. Lewis has been in and out of the squad for a long time and has not been able to establish himself as a regular member of the team.

But, if he plays well in the upcoming World Cup, he can become a part of the senior side once again. Lewis is a good fast bowler and a solid batsman who can give his side a good start in any T20 match. But, he will have to work hard to ensure he gets a regular place in the team when West Indies take part in the mega event.
